WELCOME ADDRESS

Distinguished Guests, Advisors and my dear Delegates, 
Let me take you all a few decades back to World War II, turmoil worldwide, millions of lives lost over the pettiest of reasons, destruction to the scale mankind had never witnessed before. Now after the first world war there was a temporary war tribunal set up to ensure peace but evidently, that didn’t work out. After the second world war however with almost 4 times the casualties, the world stopped and for a second unanimously agreed that peace might just be the better option regardless of any and all past wounds.
From this came the United Nations, the primary symbol of peace, fraternity and a convention of peoples. The primary reason we have averted a Third World War. Sure, world hunger has not been eradicated, poverty still thrives but keep in mind that the United Nations was created not to take mankind to heaven but to save humanity from hell.
To simulate; this great convention of nations, this place of varied opinions yet common consensus, this place that stands for the unity of mankind, is Model United Nations or as we commonly call it, MUN. Delegates when you enter the conference room and the moment the gavel bangs calling to order, you are no more a student of ISM, you are no more an aspiring artist, engineer, entrepreneur. You are the sole representative of the millions of people in your country. Your words, your actions, your slightest mannerisms could make or break the stance your country holds in world politics. You carry on your shoulders the responsibility of millions, and you carry it with pride, with a determination to win and an intense desire to emerge from that conference as a more prosperous, successful nation. That mindset, that atmosphere, that ethereal high when you successfully refute not just an argument, not just a delegate but an entire nation. That is what distinguishes MUN from any other form of debate, that is what makes MUN worth it.
You will come across varied opinions contrasting stances, political viewpoints and all of the sort during session and it will help you grow as a student, as a debater and holistically as an individual. Delegates, whether It is your 100th or your 1st MUN, the nervousness, apprehension and uncertainty in your preparation exists for every person. Trust me however when I say that once debate starts, you’ll find yourself enjoying too much to even think of being nervous. So be confident of your research, be confident in your skill, set your mind to it and you can and will emerge on top. I cannot wait to see you all steal the show and shine brighter than ever before.
