HISTORICAL CRISIS COMMITTEES

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear delegates,
Welcome to ISMMUN 2021, and a very warm welcome to the Historical Crisis Committee (HCC). I, Joshua Shalom Armstrong (Director), Ainsley Bevan Martis (Assistant Director) and Shlok Sheth (Crisis Director) will be staffing as your DAIS this year.
MUN is a platform for delegates to learn more affairs that confront different parts of the world, to embrace your diplomatic and articulation skills. MUN also inculcates the habit of listening to differing viewpoints and considering them objectively. It encourages delegates to engage with different members who have different positions on issues to find common ground.
The Historical Crisis Committee is a committee that operates differently from other MUN committees. Here, delegates travel back in time and represent specific historical figures or countries , simulating a historical event/crisis in real time. The committee makes decisions that immediately affect the historical crisis at hand. Although delegates know how the crisis ended in the past, they are encouraged to imagine themselves in the shoes of the historical figures and countries that impacted these events and change history, for better or worse.  In simple words, delegates get to time travel and change the course of history. ( Pretty cool right? )
We hope that you enjoy the conference and take part actively. We trust that you will emerge from this experience with enhanced research skills, diplomatic skills and an appreciation for the complexities confounding our world. We look forward to imparting you with a wonderful MUN experience. We wish you the very best.
Happy MUNing!!

JOSHUA SHALOM ARMSTRONG

DIRECTOR

Hey there! I’m Joshua and I will be your Director for HCC this year This will be my 4th year participating in ISM-MUN.

In my 1st year, I represented Latvia in the ECOFIN. Though I didn’t win any award, I thoroughly loved the experience.

In my 2nd year, I represented the USA in UNSC. Unlike last time, this time I took part avidly in the session and spoke up whenever I had the opportunity. I ended up winning the Best Delegate award.

In my 3rd year, I served as Director for EU and it was an amazing experience.

Attending MUN enhanced my skills and abilities that help me excel in my  hobbies such as basketball and quizzing . Moreover every year, it gives me new experiences that I still recall and cherish a lot.

MUN helps you gain new perspectives , improves your critical thinking and most importantly gives you opportunities to push yourself out of your comfort zone to find hidden talents and abilities you thought  you never had.

I hope that ISM-MUN 2021 acts as a stepping stone in your journey of self-discovery and that you depart with a broader view of our world. :)

AINSLEY BEVAN MARTIS

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Esteemed Delegates,

It is an honor and a privilege for me, Ainsley Martis, to be your Assistant Director in the HCC committee for ISM-MUN 2021. MUN has been one of the best things for me in senior school and it has been a delightful success for all those who have participated in it even if they have not won any awards.

One of the greatest things any MUN gives you is the feeling of power. There comes a time in a conference where even the tiniest, weakest country gets an opportunity to go after the big guns. MUN has helped me with my confidence and quick thinking. At my first conference, I was a nervous wreck on the first day but, I slowly let go of my nervousness and it was a very memorable conference. MUNs give you the ability to express yourself while teaching you to be diplomatic regardless of the situation you find yourself in.

My first ISM-MUN experience was in grade 9 as the Delegate of the United Kingdom to DISEC. It was a memorable session and the debates were heated with more than 40 delegates involved in a debate at one point. My second ISM-MUN experience came last year in grade 10 as the delegate of Mexico to UNICEF. It was the best MUN I had ever attended and was being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Being in my second MUN, I knew what I had to do to win an award. I prepared well and researched my allies and I ended up winning the Honorable delegate award.

I am looking forward to working with the members of our committee and winning more awards. Happy MUNing!

SHLOK ASHISH SHETH

CRISIS DIRECTOR

Greetings Delegates

A warm welcome to ISM-MUN 2021.

I am Shlok Sheth, and it is my privilege to serve as the Crisis Director of a new and exciting committee, called the HCC (Historical Crisis Committee).

I joined MUN back in 2019. MUN has helped me gain a wide range of skills and information critical to my growth and success. Model UN prepared me to speak on foreign policy issues in front of an audience, collaborate, debate with delegates representing different countries and negotiate policies. Thus, MUN helped me to not only improve my personal and oratory skills but also gain leadership qualities.

For credentials, my first ever enthralling MUN experience began with ISM-MUN 2019 as a delegate of Saudi Arabia in UNODC. On the first day, I was not aware of how to take part in the session, which is entirely normal, but the second day got the best out of me, and I was delighted to be called out in the verbal mentions.

Last year in ISM-MUN 2020, I was the delegate of Brazil in a challenging committee called the 'ECOFIN,' and it was undoubtedly the best MUN I ever had. Though we could not have the all exciting crisis session due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the delegates participated in the MUN with enthusiasm and zest leading to heated debates and a tough competition. It became even more interesting when I won awards, which lifted my confidence to a new high and paved my way to becoming the Crisis Director of HCC in ISM-MUN2021.

Looking forward to working with you all. Happy MUNing!
