UNITED NATIONS OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIME
WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR
Greetings Delegates,
The Dais extends you a warm welcome to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) committee in ISM MUN 2021! I’m Muhammad Tawfeeq and I will be staffing this committee as it’s Director along with Arjun Dhiman, who will be the Assistant Director of this committee.
The UNODC was established in 1997 as a result of the merging of the United Nations Centre for International Crime Prevention and the United Nations International Drug Control Programme. UNODC is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime. It works to educate people throughout the world about the dangers of drug abuse, combats it and assists Member States in reforming their criminal justice systems in order to be effective, fair and humane for the entire population.
MUN is an enthralling experience where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues. It helps delegates to overcome their fear of public speaking, helps them appreciate the importance of working as a group to achieve consensus and positive results and push themselves to the limit. In all, it improves the skillset of participants as a whole. We shall strive to make this session dynamic, competitive and enlightening but we also count on the effort of each delegate to make the debate as interesting and riveting as possible. We look forward to working with you and meeting you!
Happy MUNing!
MUHAMMAD TAWFEEQ
DIRECTOR
Dear Delegates,
I am Muhammad Tawfeeq from class 12 E and I will be staffing as the Director of the UNODC for this year’s MUN. This is my 2nd consecutive year participating in ISM MUN. Last year I appeared as the delegate of Bangladesh to ECOFIN, I was really nervous at first but after successfully countering the questions which followed my General Assembly speech, I felt more confident and involved myself in the conference. I eventually won the Best Delegate Award for my efforts. It was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed working with kids my age to try solve the world’s most pressing issues and draft effective resolutions.
Here are some of my interests, I love playing football (Huge Man Utd fan) and cycling, I love racing, I watch F1 and follow all kinds of motosports. I also do some painting occasionally.
It is an honour to be the Director of this wonderful committee and I am looking forward to working with you all and creating memories!
ARJUN DHIMAN
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Dear Delegates,
I am Arjun Dhiman of class 12 B and I will be staffing as the Assistant Director of the UNODC for this year’s MUN. This is my 4th consecutive year participating in ISM MUN. My first ISM MUN was a crash as I was the delegate of Greece to UNHRC and didn’t end up talking a lot since it was very nerve racking for me but it gave a huge amount of experience and confidence for my coming years . My 2nd year in which I was the delegate of Chile to IOC was much better than my first experience in which I ended up getting a verbal mention. By the 3rd year being highly experienced and confident, I was the delegate of Russian to the DISEC and bagged the best delegate award. These past 3 years having been nothing short of amazing for me, I have learnt a lot from my fellow delegates that I have worked with to solve many issues that are deemed as a threat to our world.
Here are some of my interests, I am currently playing cricket representing OMAN in the u-16 and u-19 age category, I also am a big fan of F1 and MMA. I also cycle and work out a lot in my free time.
It will be an honour for me to be the Assistant Director of this wonderful committee. I am really looking forward to working with you all and giving our all to get the most effective solutions and be the best committee.
