UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR

Greetings Distinguished Delegates!

A warm welcome to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). This year, I, Johan Walter Furtado and Krita Pruthi will be serving as the Director and Assistant Director of the UNHRC, respectively.

ISMMUN serves as an all-around experience of knowledge, diplomacy, debate, speaking skills and socializing with new friends. Not only does it help you gain knowledge, but it also helps improve your diplomacy skills, understand various perspectives and boost your critical thinking. Being a part of an MUN may seem like a daunting task. But if you prepare yourself by doing the necessary research, you need not worry as it will be smooth sailing for you.

The United Nations Human Rights Council serves as a convention for delegates of different sovereign states to come together, discuss and debate the situation of basic human rights around the world. For this year’s session, we will be placing special emphasis on the topics ‘Freedom Of The Press and Right to Information’ and ‘Deliberating and Combating The Gender Gap’.

We will do our best to make sure that you have a memorable and productive ISMMUN 2021. As we strive to make this the best committee, we also count on the effort of each delegate to make our session as interesting and compelling as it can be. Krita and I will be with you throughout this journey and we are willing to help you with even the smallest details or doubts. You can feel free to contact us at any time.

I am sure that with thorough preparation and enthusiasm from all sides, we can make this year's session a grand success. We are looking forward to meeting you as soon as possible and we hope that you will enjoy this experience with us.

Happy MUNing!

JOHAN WALTER FURTADO

DIRECTOR

Greetings distinguished delegates!

My name is Johan Walter Furtado and I will be serving as your director for this year’s ISMMUN for our committee, UNHRC. I was fortunate enough to be a part of ISMMUN’s UNICEF committee when I was a delegate of Turkey and the EU committee when I was a delegate of Greece. During my time as a delegate, I got a verbal mention and received the award of ‘Honourable Delegate’ in Class 9 and Class 10 respectively.

When I first entered my conference room in Class 9, I have to admit, I was quite nervous and apprehensive. Initially, I kept quiet and didn’t get involved in much of the policymaking. However, after seeing so many people contributing, I gathered some confidence and spoke up. This was a turning point for me as after this, I kept challenging delegates and started debating more frequently.

For me, the best part of MUN must be the different people you meet. I am always fascinated to see the amount of potential and debating skills in each person, every time I am a part of an MUN. I’m sure that I will see the same sort of potential in each one of you.

From my MUN experience, I would advise you not to be nervous or afraid. If you have done your research, there is nothing to fear. You need to speak with confidence and participate as much as you can, throughout the session. The more you involve yourself, the more points you will earn and the smoother your experience will be!

I assure you that this year’s conference will be completely worth it and I hope you will make the most of your MUN journey this year. Once again, welcome to all of you!

Happy MUNing!

KRITA PRUTHI

ASSITANT DIRECTOR

Greetings Delegates,

I, Krita Pruthi, am delighted to serve as the Assistant Director of the United Nations Human Rights Council. It is my distinct honour and pleasure to welcome you to ISMMUN 2021!

I had the opportunity to view MUN from different perspectives and every single time and it proved to be an experience that I will never forget. One learns the real meaning of diplomacy, research and leadership and ISMMUN has truly proven itself as a platform where MUNers get to transform into a generation of solvers, all while having fun, of course!

As for my credentials, I participated in my first-ever MUN conference in ISM, 2019, where I posed as a Journalist for Presscorps! That was when I knew MUN was an experience I did not want to miss out on. Since then, I’ve participated in ISMMUN 2020 and Cetera.org where I was awarded honourable as well as best delegate respectively. I am also a regular at OMUN.

Apart from MUN, I *attempt* to play the guitar! When I’m not singing/playing along to 70s tunes off-key, one can find me feeding my unhealthy addiction to Netflix or picking up a random, temporary hobby.

I assure you that this year’s conference will be worthwhile and we hope to make you experience the most of MUN in our committee.

Happy MUN-ing!
