UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to ISM MUN 2021. I am Hargun Kour, your director for United Nations Commission on the Status of Women along with Michelle Ellen Joseph, our Assistant Director for ISM MUN 2021.

Being a delegate of UNCSW will provide you with an opportunity to have an insight on the world status regarding different problems faced across the globe by Women. It also provides a platform to share your thoughts and concerns and allows you to express yourself in front of many delegates and serve as a morale booster.

The topics chosen for this session explore a vast amount of political, social and economic issues. Therefore, it’s only realistic to state that we haven’t dissected every issue to it’s core, which is why it’s important that your pursuit for knowledge on the matter isn’t solely limited to this guide. As a Dias, we are eager to listen to you.

The MUN experience is truly exhilarating and holistic in itself. We are so excited to meet you all and we count on your continued leadership and engagement during the conference. By participating in this Model United Nations, you will hone your negotiating skills, gain insights into what it takes to achieve consensus and you will have the opportunity to review the most high-profile issues of our world. Equipped with these assets, in the future you can take action and engage in the major issues of our day.

I look forward to working with you and guiding you. Hope you all will enjoy and have a wonderful experience in ISMMUN 2021. Happy MUNing!

HARGUN KOUR RAINA

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Welcome delegates!

I am Hargun Kour and I will be your director for UNCSW this year. This is my third consecutive year in ISM MUN and I’m looking forward to working with all of you this year.

I have always enjoyed interacting with people and sharing my opinion regarding political matters and MUN turned out be the perfect opportunity to put this into place.

I spent my first year as a delegate of Russia for FAO in 2019. I won my first award as Honorable delegate. As someone who had minimal knowledge of the world around me, MUN opened to me the world of international affairs and politics and the issues we are facing.

Last year I represented the Dias as assistant director of UNSC. Working on an online platform was a completely unique experience and the new barriers that were put forward were an eye opener. I departed with more knowledge than I could have hoped for.

MICHELLE ELLEN JOSEPH

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Dear Delegates,
I, Michelle Ellen Joseph, find immense delight in welcoming you to the nascent
United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) of ISM MUN 2021, and I’m indeed honored to serve as your Assistant Director.
For me, it all began with being an apprehensive 9 th -grader who was appointed as the delegate of Mexico to SOCHUM in ISM MUN’18. When my country was unexpectedly dragged into the heated debate, I instinctively spoke up to defend it and at the end, I won Verbal Mention. In 2019, I represented South Africa in IOC.
Posing as the Delegate of USA to DISEC in ISM MUN’20 was, by far, my most grueling, yet the most rewarding MUN experience, which culminated with me being announced as Distinguished Delegate.
Keeping MUN aside, public speaking, reading novels, penning down poems and teaching have stolen this karate brown belt karateka’s soul. I tread along the “Meraki” route in my doings and aspire to become an Emergency Medicine Doctor-UN Diplomat- Poet :)
So, come, let’s put our brawn and brains together in ISM MUN 2021. Let our debating and deliberating carve a lock to shut the Pandora box of misery and strife forever. Let our resolutions wake the world to a new dawn of equity, upliftment and everlasting peace.
Happy MUNing!
